Scientists all over the globe are doing everything they can to curb the coronavirus scourge.

According to the BBC, the UK government is releasing an extra £46m in the fight against coronavirus. Most of this money will go into the development of a vaccine.

Over 30 coronavirus vaccines are currently in development, and one of the studies is requiring people to volunteer to be infected with the coronavirus.

About 24 volunteers are needed for the study which will determine if a newly developed vaccine is effective against COVID-19.

The volunteers will be injected with two weaker strains of the coronavirus (called 0C43 and 229E) and will receive £3,500 each in compensation for their service.

The vaccine is developed by the company Hvivo and the volunteers, after being infected, will remain in quarantine for two weeks to see if it is successful.

Coronavirus has killed more than 3,800 people worldwide, all of them having presented flu-like symptoms before passing.

Experts are not very optimistic that a vaccine will be approved in time to halt the epidemic.

The number of coronavirus cases in the UK has risen by 48, bringing the total number of all infected cases to 163.

More than 92,000 coronavirus cases have been recorded worldwide, with 80,552 coming from China, where the virus originated.
