Former Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan has shared more information about the car accident his convoy was involved in on Wednesday evening.
According to information gathered by DNB Stories Africa, ex-President Jonathan was heading home after landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, when one of the cars in his convoy got involved in a tragic accident that claimed the lives of two of his security aides and injured another two.
Speaking through his Media and Publicity aide, Ikechukwu Eze, the former president said the accident involved one of the cars in his convoy carrying the security men attached to him.
The statement confirmed that two of the police officers attached to him named inspectors Ibrahim Abazi and Yakubu Toma died in the accident while two other officers sustained injuries.
The injured officers are responding to treatment at the hospital in Abuja, the statement said. Goodluck Jonathan, in the statement, described the incident as “painful and heart-rending” and stated that the death of his security men has caused him “deep mourning”.
The statement titled “Jonathan Mourns Two Police Officers Killed In Auto Crash” reads in part:
Dr. Jonathan noted with sadness that the deceased, Inspectors Ibrahim Abazi and Yakubu Toma, were fine officers who were dedicated to their duties and service to the nation.
Two other officers sustained injuries in the accident which involved a car conveying the security men. They were rushed to a hospital in Abuja where they are responding to treatment. The office of the former President has offered condolences to the families of the bereaved and the Police High Command.
Dr. Jonathan prayed God to grant the souls of the departed eternal rest and bless their families and the nation with the fortitude to bear the loss.
