How does Indeed Flex work in the UK?

Indeed Flex is a UK-based platform that connects job seekers with temporary work opportunities across various industries, including hospitality, healthcare, and warehousing. It offers flexibility for workers and a streamlined staffing solution for employers.

Indeed Flex and its parent “Indeed” are owned and managed by Recruit Holdings Co., Ltd., a Japanese multinational human resources and staffing company. Recruit Holdings is based in Tokyo, Japan, and is one of the largest HR companies in the world. It also owns other platforms like Glassdoor and SimplyHired.

Here’s how Indeed Flex works:

For Job Seekers (Flexers):

  1. Profile Creation: Download the Indeed Flex app and create a profile, providing personal details, work experience, and preferred job roles. New users may also need to complete a short training course to ensure they understand the company’s policies and the best attitudes to work.
  2. Verification: Authenticate your identity and work experience, which may involve a face-to-face interview with an Indeed Flex team member. In most cases, you will only do this interview once after which you can book any shift you like, even ones outside the role you originally interviewed for.
  3. Browsing and Booking Shifts: Once verified, browse available shifts that match your skills and preferences. The app allows you to apply for and confirm shift assignments directly.
  4. Shift Management: Use the app to manage your schedule, including clocking in and out of shifts, and communicating with employers if needed.
  5. Payment: After completing shifts, manage your payment details through the app to receive timely compensation.

For Employers:

  1. Job Posting: Employers can post shifts or temporary roles on the Indeed Flex platform, specifying the required skills and experience.
  2. Candidate Matching: The platform uses a smart matching algorithm to connect employers with suitable candidates from the talent pool.
  3. Shift Management: Employers can manage staffing needs, monitor shift fulfilment, and communicate with workers through the platform.
  4. Workforce Management: Indeed Flex offers additional tools and solutions for workforce management, including a vendor management system.

Benefits of Indeed Flex:

  • Flexibility: Job seekers can choose shifts that fit their schedules, while employers can fill staffing needs efficiently.
  • Efficiency: The app streamlines the hiring process, allowing for quick placement of temporary staff.
  • Diverse Opportunities: Access to a variety of roles across multiple industries.

Additional information to new flexers

  • Working through Indeed Flex is still regulated by the HMRC and new flexers will be required to submit their NI numbers so they can be taxed efficiently.
  • Flexers on a visa will also need to prove their right to work before being approved to book shifts. The user will have to submit a valid right-to-work document during the initial face-to-face interview with an Indeed Flex team member.
  • On rare occasions, a new user may fail the initial interview. When this happens the user will have to wait for 6 months before they can apply again.
  • To ensure you pass the interview, it is advised that you complete the skill and experience section of your profile meticulously before the face-to-face interview. The skills and experience you mention should correspond to the role you picked for your initial interview. For this reason, it is advised that your first shift should be a role you have adequate experience in.
