64% of world’s extreme poor live in these 5 countries, including Nigeria

by Staff writer

According to report released in 2014 by the World Bank Group (WBG), nearly two-third of the world’s extreme poor — that is, those who live on less than $1.25 a day — live in just five countries!

And the countries are:

1. India

2. China

3. Nigeria

4. Bangladesh and

5. The Democratic Republic of Congo.

Nigeria and China are among the top 20 oil producing nations in the world.

The report also listed other smaller countries with very high extreme poverty rates, including Liberia, Burundi, Madagascar and Zambia.

India is currently home to the largest number of poor people with one-third of the world’s 1.2 billion extreme poor living there.
