English singer Adele has opened up about the real drive behind her weight loss during an exclusive interview with Oprah Winfrey.
During their chat, the Grammy-winning singer told Oprah that she began going to the gym every day after realizing it helped her manage her anxiety.
According to Adele, she didn’t start working out simply to lose weight but because it helped with her anxiety.
The 33-year-old, Tottenham-born singer said:
“I had the most terrifying anxiety attacks after I left my marriage, They paralysed me completely, and made me so confused because I wouldn’t be able to have any control over my body. That really contributed towards me getting my mind right.”
Speaking about the backlash she has received for losing weight and the people who felt “disappointed” by her decision to lose weight, Adele said she is not shocked by the reactions and added that it’s not her job to “validate how people feel about their bodies”.
She said:
“I’m not shocked or even fazed by it because my body has been objectified my entire career. I’m either too big or too small; I’m either hot or I’m not. But it’s not my job to validate how people feel about their bodies. I feel bad that it’s made anyone feel horrible about themselves – but that’s not my job. I’m trying to sort my own life out. I can’t add another worry.”
