Actresses Ruth Kadiri and Halima Abubakar slam Eko Star Awards after being snubbed

Nollywood actresses Halima Abubakar and Ruth Kadiri have on different occasions taken to their social media pages to slam the just-concluded Eko Star Film and TV Awards and accuse their organizers of bias.

Ruth Kadiri had on Tuesday, April 13, called out Mo Abudu and the Lagos State Government for overlooking her for the award.

Her post read:

“I am a film maker. I am a woman. I am a hardworking woman. I have faced the struggles every woman/filmmaker has faced. Did my name at any point pop up yes. But because I do not belong to a click (sic). Yet again I have been overlooked. I will not be pressured.

“I will keep working hard. @lagosstategovt @moabudu @ijayonah @nifsummit thanks for overlooking me and congrats to everyone who got recognized. the film industry is controlled by women, so if you’re going to do it, do it right or don’t do it at all.”

Halima Abubakar in her own post insinuated that she was snubbed at the award event because she doesn’t belong to any clique.

She wrote:

“Lol. Clique and gossip will kill Nollywood, I swear.”

The 2020 Eko Star Film and TV Awards was organized by the Nigerian International Film Summit, in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Culture and Tourism and EbonyLife Productions.
