BREAKING: Edo Assembly speaker Francis Okiye impeached

The Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Francis Okiye, has been impeached.

The circumstances that led to Mr Okiye’s impeachment started when the House Majority Leader, Henry Okhurobo, filed a motion that Okiye should be impeached over allegations of high-handedness and abuse of power.

Francis Okiye’s impeachment letter was signed by nine out of the 10 members of the Edo House of Assembly present at a brief sitting on Monday.

Upon Francis Okiye’s impeachment, the House immediately elected Marcus Onobun, representing Esan West State Constituency, as the new Speaker.
