Twitter deletes President Buhari’s tweet about the Biafran war

Top social media platform Twitter has deleted a post by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, June 2, about treating “disruptors” in the “language they understand”.

The now-deleted tweet which was flagged as “abusive” by Twitter read:

“Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.”

The platform also deleted a similar comment and a video clip on the Nigerian presidency’s official Twitter account.

Over one million people (mostly Igbos) died in the Nigerian-Biafran war that lasted from 1967 to 1970.
