Police also found evidence that Dahmer was cooking and eating body parts of his victims.
A new Netflix limited series “DAHMER – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” is bringing back the horrible memories of America’s most gruesome cannibal – Jeffrey Dahmer.
Who is Jeffrey Dahmer?
Born Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer on May 21, 1960, Jeffrey Dahmer is more commonly known in the media as the Milwaukee Cannibal or the Milwaukee Monster – a title he earned for murdering and dismembering 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991. And eating some of them!
Most of Dahmer’s crimes were committed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he lived at the time. Even though Monster Dahmer shared in an interview that he never targeted his victims due to race, his victims were predominantly Black men (attractive-looking ones to add). Dahmer added that he chose his victims based on how attractive they looked and their readiness to go home with him.
Police also found evidence that Dahmer was cooking and eating body parts of his victims.
How Jeffrey Dahmer was arrested
Jeffrey Dahmer was arrested on the night of July 22, 1991. Prior to his arrest, he had offered three young men money ($100, according to reports) to follow him to his apartment to keep him company. He told them he would pay them to pose nude so he could take pictures. Only one of the men, 32-year-old Tracy Edwards, agreed to follow Dahmer home.
On getting to his apartment, Edwards immediately noticed many things were off – there was a foul stench in the room, boxes of hydrochloric acid on the floor and nude posters of men on the wall of his bedroom. Edwards also noticed that the odour was coming from a large blue drum in a corner of the room.
Feeling uncomfortable and wanting to leave, Dahmer pulled a knife and threatened Edwards to stay or he would hurt him. In order not to provoke Dahmer whom he had realized was a very dangerous man, Tracy Edwards decided to cooperate. Dahmer had asked Edwards to come and look at his fish and as Edwards bent to the aquarium, Dahmer slipped handcuffs around his wrists but was unsuccessful in cuffing both hands.
Now very scared for his life (especially after Dahmer asked him to allow him to listen to his heart and then told him that he would want to eat it), Edwards kept reassuring him that he was a friend and would not attempt to run away. Luckily, he found the right moment and knocked Dahmer out momentarily and dashed out of the apartment.
After his escape, Dahmer must have somehow realized that that would be the end of the road for him. Edwards soon returned to the apartment with two police officers. Dhamer agreed he had earlier hooked up with Edwards and admitted the handcuff on one of Edwards’ hands was put by him. While inside his apartment, one of the officers opened the dresser to check for keys to the handcuffs (Dahmer had told him the keys were there). The officer saw the keys and also saw polaroid pictures of dismembered victims.
Seeing what the officer had found and realising the officer had discovered what he did, Dahmer tried to run away but was overpowered by the other officer who cuffed him and told him he was under arrest. When officers did a thorough check of the apartment, numerous body parts from as many as 15 victims were found, including a fresh human head and two frozen human hearts in his refrigerator, decomposing torsos in the blue drum, male genitalia as well as skulls and skeletons. Police also found evidence that Dahmer was cooking and eating body parts of his victims.
Jeffrey Dahmer later confessed to killing 16 young men in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and another victim in Ohio.
Where is Jeffrey Dahmer right now?
As of the time of publishing this article, Jeffrey Dahmer is dead. He died on November 28, 1994, at the age of 34. Dahmer died in prison after he was bludgeoned to death by a fellow inmate at the Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage, Wisconsin.
Dahmer and another white convict named Jesse Anderson were bludgeoned to death on November 28, 1994, by a fellow inmate named Christopher Scarver. There are speculations that Scarver might have targeted the two men because they were white convicts who committed crimes against Black people. Dahmer’s victims were mostly Black men and the other inmate Scarver killed (Jesse Anderson) had murdered his wife and tried to frame two Black men for it.
Christopher Scarver who was already serving a life sentence for shooting his supervisor received two additional life sentences for the murders of Jeffrey Dahmer and Jesse Anderson in prison.
Was Jeffrey Dahmer really gay?
Because he targeted just males whom he performed sex acts with before and after their death, Jeffrey Dahmer was deemed to be a “homosexual necrophilic cannibal”. Some writers have argued that finding it difficult to accept his sexuality might have played a role in his crimes.
However, Jeffrey Dahmer’s actual motivation for what he did will never be known.
Why Jeffrey Dahmer was not sentenced to death
Jeffrey Dahmer was ultimately sentenced to 900 years in prison for the murders he committed. He probably did not receive the death penalty because Wisconsin had abolished capital punishment in 1853.
