Rivers State university lecturer impregnates female student, gets suspended

A lecturer of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) in Rivers State has been suspended indefinitely for getting a female student pregnant.

The suspended lecturer named Dr Rowland Igwe allegedly slept with a female student of the university and got her pregnant in the process.

Dr Rowland Igwe was reported to have gotten the female student pregnant after intimidating her on a number of occasions. The investigation also revealed Dr Rowland Igwe assaulted the pregnant student sexually.

IAUE’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele revealed on his official Twitter handle on Friday that the undergraduate suffered health complications as a result of the pregnancy.

The statement reads:

“The Management of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education has placed Dr Rowland Uchechukwu Igwe of the Department of Sociology on an indefinite suspension on an allegation of serial intimidation, sexual harassment and undue canal knowledge of a female undergraduate which resulted in her impregnation and other complications. The matter has been referred to the Council-Senate Committee on staff disciplinary matters for further investigation.”
