President Muhammadu Buhari addressed the nation on April 27, 2020.
The president’s speech which started at 8 PM (Central African Time) was centred on Nigeria’s fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Here is a summary of all the president said:
1. Lockdown is still in place in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun for another one week.
2. Lockdown will be relaxed by Monday, 4th May in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun.
3. The new and relaxed lockdown rules will come into effect from 9 AM on Monday, 4th of May.
4. Per the new lockdown measures, selected businesses will open from 8 am to 6 pm in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun.
5. There will be an overnight curfew lasting from 8 pm to 6 am. No movement will be allowed during this period, except for essential services.
6. Restriction on social and religious gatherings remain in place. Churches and schools remain closed.
7. No interstate movement until further notice – unless it is essential (has to do with health assignments or the movement of food and medical supplies).
8. The state of Kano has been put on total lockdown for the next 2 weeks.
9. It is now compulsory to wear face masks when in public places.
10. State Governments, corporate organisations and philanthropists are encouraged to support the production of cloth masks for citizens.
