Dubai Police has confirmed the arrest of Nigerian socialite and Instagram celebrity Hushpuppi and also given details about why he was arrested.
Hushpuppi was arrested on June 10, 2020, and it has been confirmed it was Dubai Police that arrested him and not Interpol as was earlier reported.
According to UAE’s online newspaper, The National, Hushpuppi was arrested on multiple charges of fraud.
According to details revealed by the police, Hushpuppi was arrested along with 12 other accomplices. The paper also revealed Hushpuppi’s real name as Ramon Olorunwa Abbas and his real age as 38 years.
According to The National, Hushpuppi is currently being charged for “obtaining money from others through fraudulent means.”
Explaining Hushpuppi’s crime in detail, a senior prosecutor said:
“They would send out letters from email addresses almost identical to those of legitimate companies targeting customers of these companies with the purpose of diverting payments to themselves.”
“Initial information includes that he was part of this gang which fraudulently obtained cash and cars from people. His statement was taken by the prosecution but this is just the beginning of prosecution investigations,” the prosecutor added.
The paper also reported that Hushpuppi is wanted for fraud crimes in Europe, the United States and Nigeria.
